Recently, a young professional in his first leadership role asked me for advice on communication. “I’m exhausted,” he confessed. “I feel like my office, even though it’s virtual, is a revolving door. I have to get employees and clients in and out just to have time to solve everything.”

This new leader was so busy trying to solve every problem that came across his desk that actually wasn’t helping to resolve anything: everything was a crisis. The real issue though, was that he was so distracted, he wasn’t really listening to either his team or his clients. He didn’t know what they really wanted, and the communication gap was huge.
