When Plans Go Sideways (and Harrod’s Saves the Day)

What do you do when the best-laid plans go sideways?

I had planned to connect with a colleague during a recent visit to London. We had been hoping to meet in person for the past three years, and this was finally going to be the day.

And then… the trains from her town were cancelled because of an electrical outage on the tracks.

Who knew?

So there I was with an unexpectedly free afternoon in London. Naturally, I went to Harrods. Because, why not?

And if you’ve heard anyone say retail is dying, I’d suggest a quick trip to London. The streets were packed. Harrods was packed. There was even a line waiting to get in at 11 AM.

The food hall, the flowers, the sheer energy, the crowds, the service – all amazing.

And honestly, it was a good reminder. Sometimes the plan changes. Sometimes the meeting doesn’t happen. Sometimes the train doesn’t arrive.

But there is usually still something worth noticing, learning, or enjoying if you’re willing to pivot.

Retail in London is definitely alive and well.

And so is the art of making the most of a detour.
