It’s almost year-end and you’re preparing an important presentation for next year’s budget. You feel you’re ready to go but you haven’t had time to rehearse. You figure it will work out fine- after all, you know your budget.

You’ll just wing it.

Shannon Speaking on a Conference Event

Why ‘winging it’ doesn’t work

Not long ago I asked a group of senior leaders how they rehearse for an important conversation or critical presentation. Surprisingly, over 75% of them said they don’t rehearse- at all! Here’s my advice:

Great communicators don’t wing it. Why? Because they lead the room before they even say a word.

Set the tone with your prep

Whether you’re presenting to the C-suite, leading a team huddle, or pitching a new idea, how you start sets the tone for everything that follows. And preparation really does count.

You can see more in my quick video here where I share a go-to strategy I use with leaders and teams, every time. I help them walk into high-stakes conversations with clarity, confidence, and a strategic edge.

Here’s the key: When you do that, you’re not scripted- you’ve got the conversation down.

It’s simple. It’s practical. And it works, in every conversation, meeting or presentation, every time.
